FAQ
Why so expensive?Ah yes, the age old question! Each pet portrait takes upwards of 50 hours to complete - they are a time consuming process! I consider the cost to be a fair representation of my current skill level and the time taken. What is included in the commission price?A custom 6 inch hand embroidered single pet portrait - framed in a hexagonal, wooden frame and ready to hang! Are shipping costs included in the commission price? No, shipping costs are on top of the commission price and will vary based on your location. I will give you a shipping price prior to you securing a spot on the commission list so you are fully aware before locking it in!Why do I have to pay a deposit just to get on the list?As I only have 5 commission slots available each year, I want to ensure they are being secured by people who are serious about going through with the commission. Can I choose the fabric colour?Yes! I have a number of different cotton drills available, and can order other colours if needed - just ask when booking your commission! Lighter colours are best, but I will let you know if I don't think the colour you would like will compliment the embroidery. If no specific colour is requested, I will use the sky blue fabric shown in most of my photos. How long will it take to complete?Approximately 2 months from the start of work. Please make sure you factor in the time to create your pet portrait - as well as the time to ship to you from Australia - if you need it for a specific date! What is the commission process?Once you have confirmed your spot on the list with the deposit, I will be in touch when I get to your commission in the list. Commissions will usually be completed in order of booking. Once we have decided on the best photo and you have paid the first payment instalment, I will draw up and send you the embroidery template to give you an idea of how it will look in the hoop. We can make any tweaks you would like and then I will start embroidering! You will be kept up to date with regular WIP photos. On completion of the embroidery and the payment of the final instalment, your embroidery will be carefully packed and shipped to you!I missed out on a spot for this year, will you open up more spots this year?I have a waitlist just in case I am running ahead of time. No deposit is required for the waitlist, I will contact the people on the list in the event I have time to do further portraits that year. I will also contact those people first when opening up the next year's commissions! Can I pay a deposit now and get on next year's list? You sure can, just don't forget that is a long time and your circumstances may change. If you later do not wish to go through with the commission the deposit is non-refundable.What do I need to consider when choosing a reference photo for you?Photos that are well lit, taken from the pet's eye level and let your pet's personality shine through are extremely helpful! It is also best if there are no features cut out of the photo (eg ears partly cropped out of frame or covered by a blanket) and their faces aren't resting on the floor. Feel free to provide multiple photos and we can choose the best one together! I understand you may have limited access to photos of pets who have passed away, and I am happy to work with the most suitable one you have access to.What kind of animals do you do?I currently can do dogs, cats and birds. However, if you have a different animal in mind let me know! I will do a discount for the first embroidery of animals I have never done before!Ok, how do I get started?
